Journey to The Red Gate
The Red Gate is nestled in the heart of the Wachau Valley, between Vienna and Linz — surrounded by vineyards and the gentle curve of the Danube.
Reaching us is part of the experience itself: a scenic journey through Austria’s most beautiful river landscape.
01. By Car
The Red Gate is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Vienna, 1 hour from Linz, or 2 hours from Salzburg.
From Vienna, follow the A1 motorway in the direction of Linz and take the Melk exit, then continue along the B3 Danube road toward Spitz.
Private parking and an e-charging station are available directly at
The Red Gate.
For a more scenic route, drive along the left bank of the Danube, passing through Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein — a picturesque approach through the vineyards.
03. By Air
The nearest international airport is Vienna International Airport (VIE), about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car.
Other nearby airports include Linz (LNZ) — approximately 1 hour — and Salzburg (SZG) — approximately 2 hours.
For your comfort, we can organize private transfers or eco-friendly shuttle options directly to The Red Gate.

05. By Bicycle
The Red Gate lies directly on the famous Danube Cycle Path (Donauradweg) between Melk and Krems.
Safe storage for bicycles and charging facilities for e-bikes are available on site.

02. By Train
The nearest major train stations are Melk (coming from Vienna) and Krems an der Donau (coming from the east).
From either station, you can reach Spitz by regional bus (WL 715 or 720) or taxi in approximately 20–25 minutes.
We will gladly assist with arranging a private pick-up from the station upon request.

04. By River
During the main season, Danube river cruises stop in Melk and Dürnstein.
From there, Spitz is only a short drive or ferry crossing away.
If you are traveling along the river, we are happy to help coordinate your transfer to The Red Gate.
